Was first found in Russia, 1830. Gained recognition during the time of Prince Alexander the second and therefore was named after him. In the Far East was thought to bring good luck.
Please note! The good quality is mostly polished and very expensive. If you happen to find an inexpensive nice looking Alexandrite it is probably synthetic. The synthetic ones are also not cheap but not as expensive. We once saw an incredible polished Alexandrite, it was sold for $10,000 per karat. The pieces sold as rough, are usually natural.
