In ancient Egypt the Emerald symbolized fertility and rebirth. In many cultures it was used to treat the eyes, to get rid of poisons and prevent child epilepsy. It was believed that keeping an Emerald under the tongue helped see visions of the future. It was also believed that wearing an Emerald strengthened memory, kept away evil powers and exposed the truth behind the statements of lovers.
